What time is it, REALLY?

clocks.jpg    What time is YOUR alarm clock set?   Maria sets her alarm clock 15 minutes fast so she can hit the snooze button and still wake up on time.  So there is REAL time and Maria time in the Knight household.  Tom’s alarm clock is set to the world atomic clock.  He always knows the REAL time!

Are your clocks set to REAL time or YOUR time?  Are you on time to your appointments or are you frequently late?

    Maria,

My alarm clock is set 67 minutes ahead of time. The rest of the clocks in the house are set 7 minutes fast. It is mostly for everyone else so that when they look at the clock they think they are going to be late. That is my biggest pet peeve,as growing up, my mom was late everywhere we went. Yes I was sitting in the car as your daughter does, waiting, waiting, and waiting.

Maria, I set my watch 5 minutes fast, this gives me that little extra time if I need it. Thanks for another fun day.

  3. Sharon Hillman Says:

My clocks are set to the correct time. My 2 alarms are set to 4:45 AM and 4:50 AM and KOOL comes on both times. I set both of these so I will make myself get up by 5:00 AM and if these don’t do it, I have 4 of my 5 Peke’s that sleep on the bed and one in a kennel so there is no way I can oversleep and be late for work. However, when I only had 2 Peke’s on the bed I could get by and sometimes ended up late for work(very rare in the last 45 years).

    Have a great day!!

I’ve set my alarm 15min ahead for most of my adult life. I can’t just get up, I NEED the extra, gradual time it takes to become semi-cognizant. I took an impromptu poll at work, and it was running 5 to 1 in favor of those who set their clocks ahead. Soooooo, it is those who DON’T set their clocks ahead who are abnormal….Gooooo Maria! ….From Chandler

I am the one that sets clock 1hr 40 min a head as I don’t think you should see 3:00 am. If you get up at 4:40 every morning, leave for work at 4:00 every morning and get to work at 4:30, then there is no math to do or brain cells waisted. Life just works. Just like clock work.
I do feel for the house keepers when they clean my room and look at the 3 clocks in there. Mine fast 1 hr. and 40. My husbands is fast 20 mins. and then you have old faithful, Cox TV.
The rest of my day is on real time, except for weekends when I want 12 noon to be 5:00 happy hour. Then I am on China’s time.

  6. Cindy Phillips Says:

I haven’t used an alarm clock in about 18 years. It sits by my bed and I automatically wake up 30 minutes ahead of time. I’ve never liked the sound the alarm makes, scares the crap out of me every single time!! So I learned to get up before it goes off and now I don’t even have to set it…..

  7. Nancy Russell Says:

Maria: You are so on the right track!!! How can anyone be on time when the clock is set to the correct time??? The idea is to be early. As a woman you know something always happens to slow us down. We must plan ahead…of course the logical solution has always been to set the clock ahead. But then most men can not get the concept. They would rather complain how we are late. My husband and I always disagree about this; he is like Tom and does not understand. He also sets our clocks so they are on “his” time which of course makes me crazy because I never know what time it is. I have “my” time on a couple of clocks anyway. After listening to the two of you this morning; I thought of what time it is at our home. (It’s time to reset the clocks again!)

Which brings me back to one of my favorite songs. Please play it today! *Does anybody really know what time it is??

  8. Virginia Fritschle Says:

I am a woman and I’m like Tom, I prefer real time. I use a clock radio set to Kool, and it tends to gain time, which drives me crazy…I have to reset it about every other week. And, I use an atomic clock set 30 minutes later, just in case I should ever fell back to sleep… which, I haven’t. But, it’s a good reminder of what stage I should be in for getting ready for work. I think the atomic clock is one of the best inventions!

  9. Pat Thomas Says:

Maria, I agree completely. The alarm clock is set 15 minutes early and the clock in the car7 minutes early.

Tom just needs a good woman in his life to straighten him out!

  10. Lauren P. Says:

Maria, I’m SO SORRY, but I have to disagree for ONCE! My clocks have to be on the EXACT time, and it bugs me when they aren’t. I just set my alarm ten or fifteen minutes before I actually have to get up, whether it’s 3:15am or 4:10am… etc.

  11. Bev S Says:

I have the alarm clock, my wristwatch, and clock in the car all set 10 minutes ahead of time. You are never late when you set them like this. If I want to know “actual” time, my cell phone shows me with just a glance.

My parents (especially my dad) were never late for anything - in fact, they would be at church on Sunday before the minister got there!

  12. oldiesfan6479 Says:

Should I mention daylight-saving time? Guess not, since if we had DST in AZ some of you would go into crisis mode twice a year! ;-) Kudos to Tom and the other atomic clock geeks…like me. My only problem is my car’s (non-atomic) clock. It drifts, like a certain lamptimer (local radio joke).

  13. Mr. Ed Says:

Time is something many take for granted. Oh, there’s time to get that done, etc. But time really is never changed! People who set their clocks ahead just so they can get places on time are only fooling themselves! No matter what time they set their clocks, the real time is catching up on you. Just imagine a world where no one is ever late! No one has to rush through traffic and fewer accidents would occur! You see, my life is not run by a clock! I have a 45 hour/week job but if I fall behind schedule, as we ALL have done at one point in our lives, then I’m going to be late! I will not ’speed’ to make up the time because speed kills! It can also get you speeding tickets which will “slow’ you down! I let God decide my time and if I am late for an appointment or something, it is still going to be in “His” time!

  14. Tina Says:

Now don’t laugh…. i know i have to be to work at 7am, and i know i have to leave my house an hr prior.. so i have to be up at 3am. To make sure i get up by 3am, i set my alarm for 2am, that gives me plenty of time to hit the snooze. And getting up at 3am gives me plenty of time to get motivated to get ready for work.
You all just crack me up on my way to work, thanks for the fun while driving to work.

  15. bruce babien Says:

my aunt used to set the clock 15 minutes ahead of time, but she was allways late, as she would mentally subtract the time. i use the atomic set clocks so they are always exactly right.

  16. Sherrie M Says:

My husband’s clock is set to actual time, mine however is set 20 minutes fast. Like Maria, I can snooze and still get up on time. IT works for me… :)

  17. Ernie Says:

The clocks in every room of our house, are all set to the atomic clock time that appears on the cable boxes. In order to appreciate the complexity of the matter, you have to know that we have a large four bedroom home, with as many as five clocks in some rooms, and no less than two in any room. Conflict erupts when we need to arrive somewhere else on time, like the airport, or a professional office. I hate being late, so I want to leave 15 minutes early. She hates to wait, so she wants to arrive exactly on time. We do not set clocks at different times, but have some highly active operations after a power outage, getting them all to be exactly alike, and set to atomic time! And for John who surely asks who wins about leaving, I always loose. I may be sitting in the car for fifteen minutes waiting for her, but we leave at her pleasure. Oops … I hear a man-card punch!
