Pick Your Own!
I guess I’m a little home sick. I’ve been thinking about all the cool things I did as a kid with my family. One of my favorite traditions was to visit Traverse City, Michigan and go to the National Cherry Festival. You pick the cherries and pay for them by the pound. The big joke was that my parents would threaten to weigh my brothers and me BEFORE we entered the orchard AND weigh us when we LEFT the orchard and we had to pay for whatever we ate, ourselves.
Great traditions…
My parents actually have two apple trees in their backyard in Michigan. When I visit, usually in the fall, it is still my job to pick the apples off the tree.
KOOL listners called the Morning Crew and told us you CAN pick apples in Arizona. Drive to Wilcox and visit Apple Annie’s Orchard.

I am from Ohio, we used to go to the apple orchards too, I will never forget the smell of that old barn where they held the apples of all kinds. It is the only really “take me back” memory I have of Ohio, the only reason I would go back there would be if I could go to that barn.

I also grew up in Michigan and picked apples and blueberries in the summer. The last time I was there in June a few years ago we went to a Strawberry patch and my daughter and I pick a flat for dessert that night. What a treat. However, I have a home in Strawberry, AZ now and I have 2 apple trees and 2 years ago I had so many apples on my McIntosh tree I had to give them away. This year the birds got them before they could get big. When I retire in Strawberry which was named for all the wild strawberries that grew there years ago I will also grow strawberries as well.
